Then Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God.

야곱이 엎드려 말하기를, "만일 하나님께서 나와 함께 하시고, 내가 가는 이 길을 지켜주시며, 먹을 빵과 입을 옷을 주시어 나로 평안히 내 아버지 집으로 돌아오게 하신다면, 여호와는 나의 하나님이 되실 것입니다.

성경은 조건부로 하나님과 딜을 하는 야곱의 케릭터를 그대로 묘사합니다.

야곱의 이기주의, 속임수, 주도 면밀한 계획과 성취욕...

왜 하나님께서는 그런 야곱을 축복하시고 예수님의 반열에 에서대신 그를 세우셨을까요?

첫 번째로 15절, 꿈에 나타나셔서 말씀하신 하나님의 축복의 언약을 믿었다는 것입니다.

어디를 가던지 야곱과 함께하시겠다는 임마누엘의 하나님!

약속의 땅으로 돌아오도록 보호하시는 하나님!

구원을 이루기까지 떠나지 않겠다는 하나님의 언약을 야곱은 믿었습니다.

둘째로, 야곱은 하나님의 약속을 되 받아 자신과 하나님께 확실한 증거로 재 확인합니다.

무엇으로?

보호하심, 먹을 양식, 옷, 평강으로 아버지 집으로 돌아 오게 하실 것을 증거로 재 확인하는 것입니다.

야곱의 조건은 세상의 명예와 부와 권세가 아니었습니다.

광야같은 세상에서 지켜주시는 하나님의 오른 손, 일상적인 그 날의 양식, 몸을 가리울 옷과 약속의 땅으로 이끌어 주시는 하나님의 평강을 조건으로 세운 것입니다.

아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 하나님, 그리고 예수님의 아버지 하나님, 그리고 나를 떠나시지 않는 하나님 아버지!

그 믿음위에 몸의 성전을 세우고 하나님의 축복 전부를 드리듯 구별된 몫으로 십일조를 드리는 나와 울 친구 되기를 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다.

Trust in God, who promises to protect us as our Savior!

The Bible describes the character of Jacob just as he was—a man who tried to make conditional deals with God. His selfishness, his trickery, his meticulous planning, and his relentless drive for achievement...

​Why then did God bless such a man and place him in the lineage of Jesus Christ instead of Esau?

​First, as seen in verse 15, Jacob believed in God’s covenant of blessing revealed to him in a dream.

He believed in Immanuel—the God who promises to be with him wherever he goes!

The God who protects him so that he may return to the promised land!

Jacob believed in God’s covenant that He would never leave him until salvation was fulfilled.

​Second, Jacob took God’s promise and reaffirmed it as a clear testament between himself and God.

Through what?

He confirmed it through evidence: God's protection, daily food, clothes to wear, and the peace that would bring him safely back to his father’s house.

​Jacob’s conditions were not worldly honor, wealth, or power.

His conditions were God's right hand protecting him in a wilderness-like world, daily sustenance, clothes to cover his body, and the peace of God leading him back to the promised land.

​The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; the God and Father of Jesus Christ; and the Heavenly Father who will never leave me!

I pray in the name of Jesus that you and I may build a temple of our bodies upon this faith and offer a dedicated tenth —as if offering the entirety of God’s blessing back to Him.

​Trust in God, who promises to protect us as our Savior!
