Psalm 39:6,7 / 10-20-26

Surely every man walks about like a shadow;

Surely they busy themselves in vain;

He heaps up riches,

And does not know who will gather them.

" And now, Lord, what do I look for?

My hope is in You.

Psalm 39:6,7

진실로 많은 사람이 그림자같이 다니고,

진실로 헛된 일에 분주하며,

재물을 쌓으나,

그 것들을 누가 취할지 알지 못하나이다.

주님,

지금 내가 무엇을 바라리요?

나의 소망은 주님께 있나이다.

시편 39:6,7

아멘!

다윗왕이 말년에 자기 인생을 뒤 돌아 보며 쓴 시입니다.

그의 아들 솔로몬왕 시대에 가장 부강했던 역사의 말년에 그가 남긴 말이, "헛되고 헛되니 모두가 헛되다!" 고 전도서에 썼습니다.

미국의 이민자들은 참 열심히 살았고,

지금도 참 열심히 삽니다.

집에 방과 화장실이 몇 개냐?

무슨 차를 끌고 다니냐?

열심히 새벽부터 밤늦게까지 일하면서요.

무엇을 위해서?

자녀들에게 유산으로 남겨주기 위해서?

자기 노후를 위해서?

자녀의 아이비리그 대학 졸업과 성공을 위해서?

다윗도 아들 솔로몬의 왕권을 위해 애를 썼습니다.

그러나 하나님이 없는 인생은 헛되다고 아들 솔로몬이 말했지요.

우리의 자녀 역시 하나님이 없는 그들의 인생은 헛되다 는 것을 깨닫습니다.

다윗이 하나님께 기도합니다.

"내 말년이 어떠할지 알게 하시고, 손바닥만 한 내 인생의 연약함을 깨닫게 하소서.

나의 소망은 오직 나의 하나님 한 분뿐이십니다!"

아마도 나 같이 노후를 바라보는 연령의 친구에게는 다윗의 이 고백이 가슴에 큰 울림으로 남을 것 같습니다.^^

My hope is in the Lord my God!

King David, in his later years, wrote a psalm as he looked back on his life.

And in the later years of his era—the most prosperous period in history under his son, King Solomon—Solomon left behind these words in Ecclesiastes: "Vanity of vanities! All is vanity."

​Immigrants in America have lived with immense dedication, and even now, they continue to work tirelessly.

How many rooms and bathrooms does the house have?

What kind of car do they drive?

Working diligently from early morning until late at night.

For what purpose?

To leave behind an inheritance for their children?

For their own retirement?

For their children to graduate from an Ivy League university and achieve success?

​David, too, poured his heart into securing the throne for his son Solomon.

Yet Solomon himself tells us that a life without God is meaningless.

Our children, as well, will eventually realize that a life without God is ultimately empty.

​David prays to God:

"Show me how my later years will end, and let me realize how frail my life is—like the width of a hand. My hope is in You alone, my Lord!"

​Perhaps for friends around my age who are looking toward their later years, this confession of David leaves a profound inspiration in our hearts. ^^

​My hope is in the Lord my God!
